3 Easy Homemade-paint Recipes for Kids

Painting is such a fun way for kids to express their creativity, but let’s face it – paint can be expensive. Luckily you can make your own paint with ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry.

Puff Paint

These quantities are for one colour.

•    1 tbsp self-raising flour
•    1 tbsp salt
•    3 tbsp water
•    food colouring

Mix all the ingredients until a paste is formed. Pour it into an empty tomato-sauce squeeze bottle for easy use or use a brush to paint onto a piece of cardboard.
Place the finished painting in the microwave on high for 10-second intervals until the paint is dry and puffy.

Finger Paint

•    ½ cup cornflour or 1 cup flour
•    4 tbsp sugar
•    2 cups cold water
•    a pinch of salt
•    food colouring

Mix all the ingredients together in a medium pot. Cook over a low heat for about 10 minutes.
Stir until the mixture is smooth and thick. Remove from the heat and let it cool. Once it’s cool, separate into containers and add colouring.
Store in airtight containers to prevent the paint from drying out.

Face Paint

These quantities are for one colour.

•    2 tsp cornflour
•    1 tsp mild body lotion
•    1 tsp water
•    food colouring

Mix all the ingredients together, except the food colouring. Add more water if needed and make sure you stir it until the mixture is creamy and lump-free. Divide into separate containers and add the desired food colouring. And voila!
